As Zellara is laying down the second set of cards, the dwarf interrupts her and insists on a private reading, presumably so as to elaborate on the meaning of the card he drew, so the rest of you retreat to the other side of the room to give them some space. After a few seconds of muffled talk between them, the dwarf storms off in anger, pushing past you and slamming the door behind him. Witnessing this, the bard exclaims "I'll bring him back!" and runs after him. During this whole commotion, a latecomer has arrived at the door of the cottage, a pensive young man of blond hair and tight-fitting clothing who introduces himself as Addison and inquires to know what the hell is going on here. Zellara appears exasperated: "I told him he'll never have his revenge, and he stormed off immediately, proving me right. And the young bard in his impulsiveness will miss his chance too. None of you will get your revenge unless you act now, for the old scoundrel has a sixth sense for danger, and could already be gone for all we know. Unrest and violence are coming to the streets of Korvosa, and all our lives will be upended in short order—and yours more than anyone's. That is what I see in the cards! Now go, and may you find the peace you seek—and bring me mine.
Addison Fletcher: Hi.. somebody mind filling me in on exactly what's going on here?
Nicolas Aubert [Common]: I assume you received a card, the same as the rest of us. This means you know something of Gaedren, yes?
[understood by: Kaleb Granzen, Addison Fletcher, Nilvalor, Nicolas Aubert]
Addison Fletcher: Yes, I know the man, unfortunately. I too received one of these strange cards.
Nilvalor: Each of us was wronged by Gaedren. May I ask what did he did to you?
Addison Fletcher: He falsely implicated me in some foul business and the rumours have been following me ever since.
Nicolas Aubert [Common]: This soothsayer, Zellara, has called us all here to give us information on his location. We have an opportunity to bring justice upon his head. Will you join us?
[understood by: Kaleb Granzen, Addison Fletcher, Nilvalor, Nicolas Aubert]
Addison Fletcher: I've been trying to get some payback unsuccessfully for years. It would be foolsih to pass this opportunity up now.
Kaleb Granzen: The foul tempered dwarf and a loose lipped bard have already left, better for them to leave sooner rather than later. We should be able to trust them to keep this little meeting quiet considering they obviously hate Gaedren. Now is the time to leave if anyone else wants to.
Nicolas Aubert [Common]: This will be dangerous, of course. We should move with caution and be prepared for a fight. I am a cleric of Nethys and will lend my spells to our cause.
[understood by: Kaleb Granzen, Addison Fletcher, Nilvalor, Nicolas Aubert]
Nilvalor: So we plan to visit Westpier straight away?

Zellara: You should move quickly to confront Gaedren—if you wait too long, he may well uproot and shift to a new hideout. My cards have told me that tonight will be a particularly advantageous time for you.
Nicolas Aubert: nods in agreement.
Nicolas Aubert [Common]: nods in agreement.
[understood by: Kaleb Granzen, Addison Fletcher, Nilvalor, Nicolas Aubert]
Nicolas Aubert nods in agreement.
Kaleb Granzen: You have to strike while the iron is hot. We are all her, I assume you are all armed. We could just head there and if things look unfavourable we can forget about tonight.
Addison Fletcher taps his spellbook.
Addison Fletcher: I'm ready to go.
Nicolas Aubert heads towards the door.
Folder assets refreshed.
Folder assets refreshed.
Folder assets refreshed.

You make your way across Korvosa's dark and mostly empty streets to the seedy area of the docks were Gaedren seems to have set up his latest hideout.
[ROUND 1]
The old fishery is a creaking, decrepit building, yet it remains solid—it will be a few years yet before its floors start to give way and its roof begins to crumble.
All external windows are boarded shut but have ample slits between the planks to allow those within to peer out.
Nicolas Aubert begins to whisper to his allies.
The fishery is perched atop a steep embankment, with most of the structure extending out over the Jeggare River on wooden pilings. The embankment drops 13 feet into the river below; the sides are slippery but look like they can be scaled.
Nicolas Aubert [Common]: We should look around for signs of other people.
[understood by: Kaleb Granzen, Addison Fletcher, Nilvalor, Nicolas Aubert]
Addison Fletcher: (whispers) Anyone else feel as though we're being watched?
The reek of brine and the stink of week-dead fish hang thickly in the air here. The old double doors in the side of this weathered building are tightly closed, with a drooping signpost hanging above. The sign it once displayed is long gone, leaving behind only a single short length of rusted chain.
Kaleb Granzen cautiously moves towards the nearest window and pees in
GM: You see nothing through the slits. The interior appears dark.
Kaleb Granzen: (whispers) the lights are out. The place seems deserted, maybe we could move in for a closer look.
Nicolas Aubert [Common]: (whispers) We should perhaps check for other entrances into the building. If Gaedren somehow knows we're here, it could be a trap.
[understood by: Kaleb Granzen, Addison Fletcher, Nilvalor, Nicolas Aubert]
Kaleb Granzen: (whispers) Agreed.
Nicolas Aubert moves cautiously and peers around the south side of the building.
A slippery boardwalk clings to the side of the fishery, held together by barnacle-encrusted pilings that have had half of their thickness worn away below the waterline twelve feet below.
Kaleb Granzen: (whispers) I know a thing or two about moving without being seen. Let me go first.
Addison Fletcher nods.
This boardwalk is about 13 feet above the water as it winds along the building's south wall, but slopes downward as it approaches the ship to the east, where it stands about 10 feet above the river. The dock is slippery, but as long as someone navigating it moves no more than her speed per round, there's no chance of disaster.
The rotten deck of this ancient sailing ship seems to be barely intact; its hull is worn and thick with seaweed and barnacles. The ship is held together primarily by the layers of old rope that lash it securely to the pilings that support the fishery and the nearby boardwalk. The rickety walkway leads along the ship's starboard, a foot below its railing.
Nicolas Aubert [Common]: (whispers) At least he can't sail away on this thing. Maybe we can cross the ship and find a back entrance?
[understood by: Kaleb Granzen, Addison Fletcher, Nilvalor, Nicolas Aubert]
Nicolas Aubert [Common]: (whispers) Kaleb, do you want to check it out?
[understood by: Kaleb Granzen, Addison Fletcher, Nilvalor, Nicolas Aubert]
Kaleb Granzen climbs up
Kaleb Granzen grasps the railing and slowly pulls himself up
Addison Fletcher follows Kaleb up over the railing.
Addison Fletcher: (whispers) The coast looks clear up here.
Nicolas Aubert follows suit, hoisting himself up.
As Addison walks towards the ship's bow, the rotten wood under his feet gives way, and he crashes through to the floor below.
Addison Fletcher: [SAVE] Reflex [d20+1 = 10]
Addison Fletcher: [d6 = 4]
Dark and dank, the ship's hold smells of mildew. Several barrels, crates, and other containers lie stacked here and there. Dust and grime cover the floor, except where river water has collected in puddles.

CULTxSaf:
This brown spider's body is fist-sized, yet its long, spindly legs and oversized fangs make it appear quite fearsome.
Addison Fletcher: (yelling) I'm in trouble here! I'm surrounded by spiders!
Kaleb Granzen draws his rapier and quickly turns the handle on the lock of the door and gently but firmly pushes against it.

[TURN] Kaleb Granzen
Kaleb Granzen opens the door and runs down.
A single wooden door leading into the aft cabin bears a crude painting of a red fish on its surface.
The air in this room is thick and musty. Thick sheets of cobwebs hang from the walls and mounds of blankets, cushions, and straw clutter the floor. To the south, a narrow flight of stairs leads down into the ship's hold.
This brown spider's body is fist-sized, yet its long, spindly legs and oversized fangs make it appear quite fearsome.
This filthy cabin has become the lair of a dark brown long-legged spider the size of a cat - one of Korvosa's notorious drain spiders. While such creatures are normally sewer inhabitants, this spider is part of a larger nest in the hold of the Kraken's Folly. Highly aggressive, the spider lunges to attack the first person to enter the room.

Kaleb Granzen: Fighting these things in close quarters is tough. I haven't heard from that wizard in a while.
Kaleb Granzen moves towards the hole in the deck and peeks down
Nicolas Aubert [Common]: There must be more of them down below. What do you see?
[understood by: Kaleb Granzen, Addison Fletcher, Nilvalor, Nicolas Aubert]
Kaleb Granzen: a corpse

You peer down the hole in the deck punched by Addison, and see his corpse on the floor being feasted on by several spiders...
Nicolas Aubert [Common]: Poor unlucky sod. I don't envy his fate. We should get off this ship before the same thing happens to us.
[understood by: Kaleb Granzen, Addison Fletcher, Nilvalor, Nicolas Aubert]
Kaleb Granzen: A shame. he was probably carrying a bit of gold by the looks of him but i'm not risking my neck to find out.
Nilvalor [Common]: What an awful fate. I wish we could give him a proper burial.
[understood by: Kaleb Granzen, Addison Fletcher, Nilvalor, Nicolas Aubert]
Nicolas Aubert [Common]: There is no time. We still need to find Gaedren.
[understood by: Kaleb Granzen, Addison Fletcher, Nilvalor, Nicolas Aubert]
Nilvalor [Common]: I think we should go back around to the front of the fishery. This ship looks too unstable.
[understood by: Kaleb Granzen, Addison Fletcher, Nilvalor, Nicolas Aubert]
Nicolas Aubert looks towards the back of the fishery for any alternate routes.
Nicolas Aubert [Common]: Once there were six of us, now only three are left. We may not be able to succeed without the element of surprise, and a great deal of luck. I don't think we should barge in through the front doors.
[understood by: Kaleb Granzen, Addison Fletcher, Nilvalor, Nicolas Aubert]
Nicolas Aubert [Common]: We need more information, and a plan.
[understood by: Kaleb Granzen, Addison Fletcher, Nilvalor, Nicolas Aubert]
Kaleb Granzen: Zellara said we will never get our chance unless we act now. We should be prepared to run but I think we should press forward even if luck hasn't been on our side so far.
Nicolas Aubert [Common]: If we can at least locate Gaedren, we may be able to tail him until the best opportunity to strike.
[understood by: Kaleb Granzen, Addison Fletcher, Nilvalor, Nicolas Aubert]
Two windows at the back of the fishery are easily accessible from the ship's deck.
Kaleb Granzen: I would never forgive myself if I got this close to the bastard and gave up now.
Kaleb Granzen: Watch your footing.
Nicolas Aubert [Common]: Indeed. Kaleb, can you make it across to one of the windows quietly?
[understood by: Kaleb Granzen, Addison Fletcher, Nilvalor, Nicolas Aubert]
Nicolas Aubert [Common]: You are lighter of foot than either of us.
[understood by: Kaleb Granzen, Addison Fletcher, Nilvalor, Nicolas Aubert]
Kaleb Granzen: I can try.
Nicolas Aubert [Common]: Don't do anything foolish, just scout it out and let us know of any danger.
[understood by: Kaleb Granzen, Addison Fletcher, Nilvalor, Nicolas Aubert]
The window is boarded shut.
Nilvalor [Common]: (whisper) Should I try and break open the window?
[understood by: Kaleb Granzen, Addison Fletcher, Nilvalor, Nicolas Aubert]
Kaleb Granzen: (whisper) I could try climb the mast for a better look from the roof.
Nicolas Aubert [Common]: (whisper) This ship is rather unstable, are you sure that's safe?
[understood by: Kaleb Granzen, Addison Fletcher, Nilvalor, Nicolas Aubert]
Kaleb Granzen: (whisper) no, but I could try regardless.
Kaleb Granzen: (whisper) Maybe just breaking open the window as quietly as possible would be the wiser move.
Nicolas Aubert [Common]: (whisper) I think we should just go through the window at this point, and back up Nilvalor if anything comes through.
[understood by: Kaleb Granzen, Addison Fletcher, Nilvalor, Nicolas Aubert]
Nilvalor attempts to pry open the window with his greatsword.
GM: The boards on the window don't move. You'll have to break them.
Nilvalor shealths his sword and tries to break the boards.
Nilvalor: [ABILITY] Strength check [d20+3 = 20]
You throw your weight on the boards, and they snap with a mighty thud that reverberates through the night.
You peer into the room, squinting to make out its outlines with the help of the moonlight.
It appears to be a large room, and it's filled with dozens of small moving creatures!
Kaleb Granzen: Somethings moving in there. Rats I can handle but if it's more of those spiders we have a problem.
The creatures are children!
Kaleb Granzen: (whisper) I was close.
They all huddle in the center of the room, awoken from sleep by your bashing down the window.
Nilvalor puts finger to his lips signalling them to be quiet.
Nicolas Aubert [Common]: (whispers) We're not here to hurt you. We're here for your masters. Can you stay quiet for us?
[understood by: Kaleb Granzen, Addison Fletcher, Nilvalor, Nicolas Aubert]
Nilvalor [Common]: (whispers) I'm going to climb through. I can only see kids from here.
[understood by: Kaleb Granzen, Addison Fletcher, Nilvalor, Nicolas Aubert]
Nicolas Aubert [Common]: (whispers) They must be 'Lamm's Lambs'. I was once one of them, a slave, before I escaped his grasp. We must save them.
[understood by: Kaleb Granzen, Addison Fletcher, Nilvalor, Nicolas Aubert]
Nilvalor climbs through the window into the fishery delicately.
Kaleb Granzen readies his crossbow.
Nicolas Aubert follows Nilvalor into the room.
Kaleb Granzen climbs through the window.
The floor here is slick with river water, bits of seaweed, and fish blood, and the air is thick with the accompanying scents. Wooden catwalks to the north and south allow access between the western part of the fishery and the floor of the room, which is ten feet lower. A wide opening in the floor to the south allows direct access to the sloppy, muddy water of the Jeggare River a further three feet down, while to the northwest stands an immense eight-foot-tall wooden vat, its sides caked and waterproofed with tar. Inside is a foul-looking mixture of chum, river water, and who knows what else. To the east are stacked many barrels and crates, each with a fish painted on it. Over a dozen small hammocks hang from under the catwalks, each with its own ratty blanket and pillow.
Nicolas Aubert [Common]: (whispers) This brings back awful memories.
[understood by: Kaleb Granzen, Addison Fletcher, Nilvalor, Nicolas Aubert]
You count at least two dozen children.
None of them seem inclined to move closer to you or speak.
Nicolas Aubert [Common]: (whispers) We are not here to hurt you. I know the horrible things that Gaedren has done. I have the same scars.
[understood by: Kaleb Granzen, Addison Fletcher, Nilvalor, Nicolas Aubert]
Nilvalor readys his sword and scans the room for anyone else aside from the children.
Nicolas Aubert [Common]: (whispers) If you can help us find him, we can help you.
[understood by: Kaleb Granzen, Addison Fletcher, Nilvalor, Nicolas Aubert]
A dog suddenly runs into the room and starts barking his head off!
Kaleb Granzen scans the room for entrances and exits.
